Kate Gies in Conversation
Event Details:
Join us for a special author event with Kate Gies at the W. Ross Macdonald School for the Blind in Brantford. Taking place from 2-3 PM in the school auditorium, this engaging afternoon will feature an author talk, readings from her work, an interview-style conversation, and a Q&A with the audience. Gies is a Toronto-based writer and educator who teaches creative nonfiction and expressive arts at George Brown College. Her writing has appeared in publications such as The Globe and Mail, The Walrus, The Malahat Review, and The Humber Literary Review, and she was named a CBC Writer to Watch in 2025.
Gies will discuss her memoir, It Must Be Beautiful to Be Finished, which reflects on her childhood medical experiences related to being born with a missing ear. Through storytelling and conversation, she explores themes of identity, resilience, and living with difference.
