Upcoming Dates:

Saturday, October 12, 2024 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Event Details:

Ever dreamed of being a pilot? What about piloting by remote? Not automated drones, where a computer makes all the decisions, but taking control of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems to achieve launch, flight, and touchdown. Maybe even starting your own journey towards building and customizing models! We’re partnering with the experienced members of Brant Flyers RC to offer aspiring pilots from 10 to 100 years of age* a unique and exciting opportunity to learn about and experience the wonder of mobile aviation. At no cost, you can attend a four-week course here at the Main library to learn how and why these remote aircraft work and enjoy hands-on experiences at each stage of the process. Then, for the fifth week, you’ll receive a special invitation. Schedule of interactive topics: Sept 14: Introduction to Model Aviation Sept 21: Aircraft Materials and Construction Sept 28: Propulsion and Control Systems Oct 5: Flight Safety/Build Workshop Oct 12: Flying/BBQ Afternoon at the Brant Flyers Field** *Participants under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a parent or responsible guardian. This course is not recommended for children under 10 years of age. **By invitation only. Refreshments and materials will be provided, however transportation to and from this event is the responsibility of the participant. Brant Flyers RC is associated with the Model Aeronautics Association of Canada (MAAC), the governing body for model aviation in Canada, and in turn, the Aeroclub of Canada as well as the Fèdération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) the global sport aviation authority. Contact Robin at rharding@brantfordlibrary.ca for more information. Registration opens August 15.
