Learn to Knit - Parent and Child Edition

Parents and children (10+) will learntogether how to learnhow to knit a basic stitch and how to start and finish a project. 

 

All materials provided. Registration required. A registration spot is for one (1) child and one (1) caregiver together. Caregivers will work alongside the child they accompany.

 

Registration opens on January 27.

Canada Connects: English Conversation Circles

Canada Connects provides newcomers with informal support, helping them enhance their spoken language skills. Volunteer facilitators organize conversation circles along specific social themes that are discussed in each session.

These conversation groups provide newcomers and volunteers the opportunity to meet other newcomers, share experiences, socialize, and make new friends. This program is designed for newcomers to Canada who are 18 years of age or older.

A partnership of YMCA Immigrant Services – YMCA of Hamilton/Burlington/Brantford and Brantford Public Library, supported by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. Call 519-752-4568 ext. 3645 for information.

Storytime at St. Paul

In this weekly storytime hosted every Wednesday, preschoolers will develop a love for reading by learning easy rhymes, repeating phrases, exploring story props, and strengthening comprehension, together! Books from our collection will be carefully selected to help bring the learning home.

 

Ages 18 months to 4 years. This is a drop-in program.

Preschoolers ages 3-5, will enjoy this 6-week-long, kindergarten readiness program, with a focus on social skills and independence! The weekly program's length is 45 minutes.

Parents & caregivers must remain in the Library while children participate independently in the program. 3-5 years old and must be entering kindergarten (JK or SK) in September 2026.

Register ONCE for this 6-week session. Registration opens on January 7.

Black History Month Drop-In

Come learn about Black History this February at Brantford Public Library!

A member of our Local History Committee will be staffing a display featuring Black history-focused materials, videos, and photographs. Check out the display or come by for an in-person orientation to Library materials on Black history.

The Alzheimer Society’s Social Café is a welcoming space offered weekly where persons living with dementia and their care partners can socialize, build support networks and enjoy dementia friendly activities together. Please call 1-800-565-4614 ext. 421 to register.

Once registered, you can drop in as many times as you like.

Book Buddies (Grades 2 - 8)

4:00 PM | 173 Colborne Street

For elementary school students in Grades 2 to 8, please join Laurier Students for Literacy at the Main Branch from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday for 1:1 tutoring help, including reading and writing support.  Winter programs run from January 26 to April 2. There are no regular programs during Reading Week (February 16-20).
